The Emergency Operations Bureau manages the day-to-day activities of the Department's emergency responders. The on duty personnel are divided into three Battalions with each having an assigned Battalion Chief. The staff works a four-shift rotation. The Operations Division has on-duty personnel with specialized skills to respond to unusual emergencies such as hazardous materials events, high angle rescues, trench rescues and confined space rescues. The Department also maintains a fireboat for response to marine incidents on Puget Sound.
