The meetings begin at 5:00 p.m. and are held at the Tacoma Municipal Building Council
Chambers, 747 Market Street (1st floor), Tacoma Washington.

The public is welcome to attend.

The Civil Service System for the City of Tacoma is one of the most unique in the State of Washington.  It extends Civil Service protections and coverage to the majority of the City's work force instead of only the fire and police services as required by state law.

Most civil service commissions consist of people appointed by management. In Tacoma, however, the Civil Service Board consists of three members elected by the registered voters of the city. One member is selected by the classified employees in the City's work force, and one member is appointed by management.

All Board Members are required to live within the city limits and must be a qualified voter during their entire term. The Board is a quasi-judicial body.
