Over the years TV Tacoma and the talented members of our staff have been recognized
for their superior work through numerous awards. Here are some of our most recent honors.

The AVA Award is sponsored and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals, and recognizes outstanding achievement by creative professionals involved in the concept, writing, direction, shooting, and editing of audio-visual materials and programs. In 2008 TV Tacoma was honored by this international organization.

First Place, Documentary Category: “Cowlitz River Hatcheries” produced by John Phillips
Produced for the program “CityScape”, this documentary highlighted Tacoma Power’s Cowlitz River Hatcheries and the vital role they play in successfully restoring fish runs in the upper Cowlitz Basin. |

The National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) is a national association that represents the communications needs and interests of local governments, and those who advise local governments. In 2008 TV Tacoma was honored a number of times at the NATOA Programming Awards.

Second Place, Documentary Profile: “Gertie: a tale of three bridges” produced by Fred Yomes
This production tells the story of the history of the three separate bridges that have spanned the Tacoma Narrows from Tacoma to Gig Harbor.

Second Place, Community Awareness: “WWII Memorial” produced by John N. Miller
This story focused on the tremendous dedication and effort of a Tacoma woman whose mission it was to make certain that the Pierce County World War II Memorial contained each and every name of those who gave their lives in that terrible conflict.

Honorable Mention, Community Awareness: “Volunteer Divers”, produced by David Gordon
Volunteers play an important role at the Pt. Defiance Zoo and Aquarium. But this group of volunteers are a little different from the norm.

Honorable Mention, Public Education: “Tacoma Sound Barriers”, produced by David Gordon
The third of our "CityScape" story packages to be recognized. This piece showed us how the sound barriers being erected along I-5 could mitigate freeway noise and bee artistically pleasing at the same time.

Honorable Mention, Interview/Talk Show: “Cityline”, produced by Andrew Hillier
Produced LIVE every Thursday, "Cityline" highlights the many actvities, events and services available to the citizens of Tacoma.
