Council cancels study session for March 13, Council meeting still scheduled
City Council has announced that the study session for March 13 has been cancelled. The City Council will still hold a Council meeting March 13 with no action items on the agenda. City Council will resume its regular meeting schedule on March 20, 2007.

Affordable housing community workshop, March 13
The Pierce County Regional Council is hosting an affordable housing workshop in partnership with the City of Lakewood and Sumner on March 13 at noon in the Tacoma Municipal Building North, Room 16. The purpose of the workshop is to gather opinions, challenges, suggestions, concerns and solutions related to affordable housing in Pierce County. The Pierce County Regional Council has contracted with Pacific Municipal Consultants (PMC) to update the County’s Fair Share Distribution of affordable housing among jurisdictions and to formulate a draft of the affordable housing countywide planning policies. Get Smart Tacoma! Talk education and learning at Conversation Café
The Joint Municipal Action Committee (JMAC) is inviting the community to participate in a Conversation Café on Tuesday, March 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Tacoma Municipal Building, located at 747 Market St, 7th floor conference room. The topic will be focused on education and learning, and the intent of the Conversation Café is to bring people together to have a lively talk about questions that matter. JMAC is a collaboration of the City of Tacoma, Tacoma Public Schools, Metro Parks and Pierce County. JMAC’s goal is to engage the community in a dialog aimed at deciding what future the community wants for Tacoma and the role that education and learning will play in achieving that future. This discussion is one in a series of conversations leading up to the community summit scheduled for May 4 and May 5 at Stadium High School. Tacoma’s architectural heritage seeks volunteer for commission
The Tacoma City Council is inviting qualified individuals to apply for an open position on the Landmarks Preservation Commission. The Landmarks Commission is currently seeking applications for the professional position. Individuals with documented professional experience or training related to historic preservation originating from employment or study within a related discipline, who reside or work within the City of Tacoma are encouraged to apply. The Landmarks Preservation Commission oversees the establishment and regulation of landmarks, landmark sites and historic districts. Commission meetings are held at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. The Commission is comprised of 11 citizen volunteers who serve three-year terms. Members are recommended for appointment by the Council Appointments Committee and confirmed by the City Council. For more information, visit www.tacomaculture.org. Road closure scheduled for March 13
On March 13, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., South 64th Street between “M” and Sheridan streets will be closed. The temporary closure is necessary to complete repair work on a 30-inch water transmission main. The excavation will be approximately 15 feet deep and require the movement of large equipment.
