Background
The Washington Growth Management Act allows cities and counties to amend their comprehensive land use plans only once a year, and requires that all revisions be considered concurrently to determine the cumulative effect of the proposed changes.
Tacoma's Comprehensive Plan is the City's official statement concerning future growth and development. It sets forth goals, policies, and strategies for the health, welfare, and quality of life of Tacoma's residents. The plan is used to guide land use, development, and capital facilities budgeting decisions. The Comprehensive Plan consists of policy plan elements, including those mandated by GMA, and implementing programs, all of which are adopted by the City Council.
