Public Relations Unit

Welcome to the Tacoma Police Department's Public Relations Unit (PRU). The PRU serves as the center for media communications by disseminating information through the news media and print publications. We believe a responsible and effective partnership with the media is vital to our Department's overall mission.

The PRU gathers and distributes news to media throughout the greater Puget Sound region, as well as the State of Washington. Our cadre consists of media professionals and trained Police Officers that respond to questions about many Tacoma Police Department events, programs and public issues. Our Public Information Officer will respond to media requests as early as possible, release public safety information in a timely manner, and accommodate other media requests when needed.

In addition, the PRU arranges tours of the Tacoma Police Headquarters, coordinates speakers for community groups and facilitates Departmental special events. The PRU is also responsible for the preparation of Departmental documents, brochures and other collateral pieces.
