City and Tacoma Art Museum seek artists for bike-themed temporary artwork
In recognition of National Bike Month, the City of Tacoma and the Tacoma Art Museum invite artists and/or artist teams from Pierce and Thurston counties to submit proposals for the creation of a piece of temporary artwork for the 4th annual Zeit-Bike exhibit at the Tacoma Art Museum. Deadline for submissions is March 19, 2010.

The 2010 Zeit-Bike competition is seeking three artists or artist teams to create kinetic sculptures that reference bicycles either in form, materials or essence. The sculptures must be functional enough to be ridden and human powered. Artists will be selected through a competitive process. Each commission is $1,000.

The kinetic bike sculptures will be exhibited on the upper mezzanine at the Tacoma Art Museum from May 18 through May 21, 2010. A longer temporary installation location will be sought in conjunction with the Temporary Contemporary Tacoma exhibition series.

Zeit-Bike is supported by the City of Tacoma, Pierce County, Pierce Transit, Tacoma Art
Museum and a Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) grant.

Artists interested in applying may download the Call to Artists at www.tacomaculture.org/arts/Esubmit.asp. Calls to Artists are also available by calling (253) 591-5191 or by e-mailing nstrom-avila@cityoftacoma.org.
