Behind The Shield

This month’s Behind The Shield program looks at fire protection systems and traffic enforcement cameras.

Many important units make up the Tacoma Police Department, and one that’s kept extremely busy is the Special Assaults Unit, which is charged with keeping track of sex offenders. In fact there are currently over 900 registered in the City of Tacoma, with more than 70 being Level-3. Then the Tacoma Fire Department discusses the importance of the chaplaincy program and why these individuals play such a vital role at emergency scenes.

An historic event recently took place when Tacoma Fire Engine-10 was retired after responding to more than 50,000 calls and traveling more than 200,000 miles. Training plays a vital role in public safety, especially for the Tacoma Fire Department. Financial crimes and identity theft comprise a lot of concern for the Tacoma Police Department. On this months show we’ll have some tips on what can be done to help prevent this happening to you. Then the Tacoma Fire Department discusses the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, otherwise known as HIPAA, and what role that plays in the fire service.
