November 2009
November is a busy month for the Tacoma Police Department as they get ready for their annual “Shop With A Cop” program. Each year this event helps children have a happier holiday season. Then the Tacoma Fire Department discusses cardio pulmonary resuscitation, more commonly known as CPR.
October 2009
The Tacoma Police Department discusses how to prevent residential burglaries in your neighborhood. Then the Tacoma Fire Department talks about how the public can prepare itself in case there is an outbreak of the H1N1 flu in the Tacoma/Pierce County area this fall.
September 2009
On this months show the Tacoma Police Department discusses the importance of Buckling-Up! Then the Tacoma Fire Department features their Safety Division, and highlights the training and precautions firefighters take to make sure they don’t become injured on the job.

In order for the Tacoma Fire Department to arrive on the scene in a safe and timely manor the fire trucks and engines have to be running perfectly. This month we’ll take a look at the fire garage and see what it takes to keep these machines in tip top shape. Then the Tacoma Police Department discusses the fireworks ban in the City of Tacoma.
May 2009
A lot goes into solving a crime and the Tacoma Police Department’s Forensic Unit plays a big role in determining how a crime was committed and who did it. This month we’ll learn about the different techniques that are used by this unit. May is Arson Awareness Month and the Tacoma Fire Department will be on board to discuss how a fire is determined to be arson, and what is done to prosecute those involved.
April 2009
One of the largest propane explosions in Washington State happened in Tacoma in the fall of 2007. On this months show we’ll learn how Tacoma Firefighters handled the treacherous situation, and see why previous training efforts prepared them for this endeavor. Then the Tacoma Police Department discussed child advocacy and how it plays a vital role in abuse situations.
March 2009
Bagpipes and drums go back years in the fire service. A new pipe and drum band has begun in Pierce County which features members of the Tacoma Fire Department. Then the Tacoma Police Department highlights its Burglary Unit and provides some great tips on keeping intruders out of your home. That’s all this month on Behind The Shield.
February 2009
The Tacoma Police Department has a new unit designed to help solve past crimes that were once thought to be unsolvable. The Cold Case Unit hopes that new technology will allow them to decipher the many unanswered questions to cases that date back over 40 years. And the Tacoma Fire Department discusses the importance of their Code Enforcement Division. That’s all this month on Behind The Shield.

This month on Behind The Shield…….the Law Enforcement Support Agency plays a major role in handling 9-1-1 calls for the Tacoma Police Department and other local jurisdictions. It’s a stressful job that requires quick thinking to make sure help gets dispatched in a timely and safe manor. Then Tacoma Fire Chief Ron Stephens talks about what’s ahead in 2009 for the Tacoma Fire Department.
