The City of Tacoma has embarked on a collection-wide maintenance program for public art.
The City surveyed the outdoor art collection in 2007 to identify pieces that required conservation or a good cleaning and polish.
Now that this maintenance program is in affect, the City has implemented a cleaning schedule for the Bridge of Glass.
Also, the five three-dimensional shells on Ruston Way near Firefighter’s Memorial known as Tidal Pool, created by Betz Bernhard, have been returned to their original glory.
Restoration is underway for the bronze sculpture, “Clearing the Way,” created by artist Larry Anderson in celebration of the City of Tacoma’s Centennial. The sculpture, located in Fireman’s Park at South 9th Street and A Street, has been removed, but don’t despair, it’s being restored and will be returned to its site.
In addition, the crystal towers on the Chihuly Bridge of Glass will get a good scrubbing this spring.
This summer, the locomotive monument, created by Doug Granum and located on South 14th Street and A Street, will be cleaned and protected.
