RE: Transfer of Special Event Responsibilities
As you may recall, several community meetings were held last month to discuss the proposed transfer of event responsibilities from the City of Tacoma to Metro Parks Tacoma and the development of a Special Events Office. An additional opportunity to provide feedback was held during a public hearing before the City Council on April 17th. Valuable feedback was gathered from all of the meetings and is being taken into consideration as we move forward.
A request made by several individuals was to create a Task Force to provide input on the development of a Special Events Office. Based on this request, we are providing an opportunity for each group on the attached list to submit a nominee to participate on this Task Force. While this list does not include every special event organization, it is intended to provide a broad representation of the various sizes and types of special events permitted in Tacoma.
If your organization is interested in participating, please submit your nominee name and contact information to the Community and Economic Development Department by Friday, June 8 providing the information requested on the attached form. You may use mail, e-mail or fax as follows:

Our first Task Force meeting will be scheduled in June. To accommodate schedules we anticipate meetings will be held once weekly at the Tacoma Municipal Building, 747 Market St., starting at 5:30. Future meeting locations and times will be confirmed at the first meeting.
If you are aware of a special event group that wishes to nominate an individual but does not appear on the list please let us know as soon as possible. It is the City’s objective to establish a manageable Task Force of approximately 15 representatives.
