Tacoma boasts a host of universities, community and technical colleges that add to the vitality of our city. Below is a snapshot of each.
University of Washington, Tacoma
UWT provides courses for the junior and senior years of a bachelor's degree as well as master's degree programs. UWT was approved by the Washington State Legislature to add first and second years of undergraduate education, which began in 2007.
University of Puget Sound
The University of Puget Sound is an independent predominantly residential undergraduate liberal arts college with selected graduate programs building effectively on a liberal arts foundation.
Pacific Lutheran University
PLU is a comprehensive university that integrates the liberal arts and professional programs. The primary mission is to educate students for lives of thoughtful inquiry, service, leadership and care.
Evergreen State College, Tacoma Campus
Academic programs at the Tacoma Campus are interdisciplinary, year-long, team-taught and full-time.
University of Phoenix
Designed specifically for busy working professionals, University of Phoenix lets students earn their bachelors or masters degree while maintaining their careers and personal life. Most students complete their degree in just two to three years.
Pierce Community College
The Pierce College District is two community colleges and an extended learning program. Pierce is one of the largest educational providers in the state, and is nationally ranked in degrees conferred.
Tacoma Community College
Tacoma Community College offers a diversified curriculum to serve the needs of a wide cross-section of students. Approximately 17,000 individuals enroll at TCC in college transfer programs or in vocational programs focused in areas such as allied health, business, computer technology or public service. State-sponsored work force training programs in computer technology, entrepreneurship, health care and human services are available, as are customized training programs for businesses.
Bates Technical College
Bates is the largest technical college in the Washington State Community and Technical College System.
Clover Park Technical College
The mission of Clover Park Technical College is to provide education leading to competencies that meet business and industry standards for the diverse workforce of today and tomorrow.
