How will this proposal help reduce crime?
We hope to disrupt gang activity and minimize associated crimes, through the efficient use of community services.
How will this effort involve or include the community?
It will be pulling together an inventory of existing community services which utilizes community resources, CLOs, neighborhood groups and councils and disseminate an end product where the community acts as partner and a conduit, and facilitates use of services.
Who, in addition to those listed in the contacts sidebar above, will need to be involved to make this effort successful? Faith Based Community Services, City HRHS, County, Beth Wilson, County Health, School District, Department of Corrections, CPS, Barry McColeman, TPD Gang Task Force, Lawrence Stone, Safe Streets, Miguel Villahermosa, Tacoma School Security, Kate Frazier, Tacoma Schools all need to be involved.
The first phase of the plan is to educate the team members of our task force to understand and learn about existing gang culture, and conduct meetings with key members. It is anticipated that we will utilize all of the community resources available and create an informational hand-out for first responders and others in the community who work with high risk individuals.
What pieces of information or resources are needed to move forward?
We are going to rely on the support of former gang members and the Tacoma Police Department. We need gang experts, samples of existing list, members who have attend the IGNITE symposium and technical support. |
